Our History
A building with soul in the heart of Lisbon
On Rua das Portas de Santo Antão, just steps from Rossio Square, the Coliseu dos Recreios and the Teatro Nacional D. Maria II, stands a building that is part of Lisbon’s cultural pulse. This historic street, long associated with theatre and artistic life, has for decades been a meeting point for actors, writers and lovers of culture.
The property once belonged to the renowned Portuguese actor Vasco Santana, one of the most emblematic figures of 20th-century theatre and classic cinema in Portugal. A leading presence on Lisbon’s stages and in iconic films, his life was deeply connected to this very neighbourhood. His legacy still resonates in the character of the building: discreet, elegant and intrinsically linked to the arts.
Over the years, the building went through different phases. In March 2024, Europe Hotels International acquired the property and launched its first chapter under the name O’Artista Suites by Europe, operating it as serviced apartments with kitchens in the heart of historic Lisbon.

La visión de Europe Hotels
La historia de este proyecto forma parte de una trayectoria más amplia. Europe Hotels International es una empresa hotelera familiar cuyo origen se remonta a noviembre de 1973, con la apertura del Europe Hotel Tenerife, entonces el tercer hotel en Playa de Las Américas. Desde entonces, la compañía ha crecido a lo largo de varias generaciones manteniendo intacto su principio fundamental: crear recuerdos y bienestar a través de la hospitalidad.
